Driving from Bayeux to Mont-St-Michel, we detoured to Hambaye Abbey, in a lovely wooded valley. But it was lunchtime, and so of course we could not go inside. |
When we arrived at Mont-St-Michel, we were astounded by the size of the car park. This is a view from the island. We had island accommodation booked, and so were allowed to park close. |
Going onto the island, we fought our way up the main (and only) street, which was a solid traffic jam of people on foot. This was our hotel. |
View from the causeway of the town walls, with parts of the town visible behind, and the abbey perched on top. |
A similar view at night, with the abbey floodlit. |
A closer view of the abbey. |
Dusk over the waters of the bay ... |
... and dawn. |
Then it was time to start heading back east, to our stop in Chartres.
