L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Part 3

Thursday was market day again, so we looked around the town in the morning. *

It was very peaceful by the river. *
After some lunch, we set off for one of Lynn's favourite places, Pont du Gard. †
  *
  *
  *
Medieval stone masons would visit Pont du Gard to learn about its construction, and would carve their initials into the stones. †
There were canoes in the river. *
This old mill just downstream from the bridge was an attractive building ... †
and we found it had a good terrace on which to have a beer. *
Friday was our last day in L'Isle, and we set off on quite a long journey to the Camargue. We had hoped to photograph some flamingoes, but we could not find any so instead we went to the seaside town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. It had attractive lights along the seafront boardwalk ... *
but it was very busy and crowded because of a bullfight festival. *
We we went on to Arles, where we looked at the Roman arena ... *
  *
and the carving above the cathedral doorway. *
We went down to Les Alyscamps, a mausoleum established just outside the walls of the Roman town. *
It was very peaceful ... *
  with rows of sarcophagi. †
In the evening, our apartment owner came around to refund our security deposit. We asked if he could recommend a restaurant for our last night in town, and he made a booking for us at Le Jardin du Quai, near the train station. There was no menu provided, but we had a delightful set meal. *

On Saturday morning, we set off for Moustiers-Ste-Marie.
