New Zealand 2015

Nelson, 10-15 April

Going up the Buller Gorge, in one place the road has been cut out of a sheer cliff. †
A closer view, with one of the ubiquitous Jucy camper vans. †
A public piano in the mall on Nelson's main street. *
We drove for lunch to Mapua, a fishing village just west of Nelson. *
  *

Nick contemplating lunch and the view. *
Driving back to Nelson, we saw snow-capped mountains. *
Another excursion was to the source of the Riwaka River, involving a pleasant wander along a path through forest next to the river. *

Another of the cheeky wagtails. *
The river source, where it emerges from an underground cave system. †
The start of the path to the river source. †
Another excursion was to Cable Bay, north of Nelson. *

The tide was out, so the bay was full of mud flats. †
Lynn loves the crumpled look of New Zealand hillsides. *
The main reason for spending time in Nelson was to visit Nick's sister and her adult children: Josh, Aaron, Taffy, Susie, Miro. *

Then it was across the top of the South Island and down the east coast to reach Hanmer Springs.
