New Zealand 2017

Russell, 22-23 November

Between Kerikeri and Russell, we stopped in Pahia and had a drink in this very nice waterside bar. *
The waterfront at Russell, in front of our apartment. *
There was a busy harbour at Russell, with moored boats ... *
  and a marina. †
During our day in Russell, we took a boat trip out to the Hole in the Rock, passing various islands and settlements. *
Dolphins often swam close to the boat, but were very difficult to photograph. This blurry pic was our best attempt. *
This island reminded us of decorations on "Chinese" plates. †
  Lynn likes lighthouses. *
The Hole in the Rock. †
The town of Pahia seen from the water. †
Russell had also been a mission, but with French Catholic priests rather than English Protestants. This is the Mission House, where the priests printed Christian books in Maori. †
Three passenger ferries run between Russell and Pahia. This was the smallest and slowest. *
The verandah of the Duke of Marlborough Hotel, where we had a good meal. *
There was a lovely sunset. *
The jetty was pretty in the evening light. *

Then off to Coromandel, with an overnight stay at Mangawhei Heads (on the Other Places page).
