Outback 2011

Hawker to Marree

From Hawker, we went to Wilpena in the Flinders Ranges National Park. †
We walked next to a creek with these magnificent river gums. †

View from a lookout into Wilpena Pound. *
Emu chicks are much more cute than fullgrown birds. These were in the car park at Wilpena with their father. *
View of the Razorback, and the road through the National Park. *
  *
More river gums in Brachina Gorge, Flinders Range National Park ... *
and fossils in a rock there. *
  *
The view of the Leigh Creek open cut coal mine from a "scenic lookout". *
By now, the Land Cruiser was rather less clean after travelling on clay roads in the rain. *
  It became very stormy. *
Late in the afternoon, we reached the abandoned town of Farina, which had been an important stop on the old Gahn train line. *

  *
  *
Just as we got to Marree, the weather cleared to a spectacular sunset. *

The next day, we had a flight over Lake Eyre.
