Yosemite, 7 and 8 October

Driving east from San Jose, we went through the Diablo Range on the Pacheco Pass Highway. Shortly before going through the pass, we stopped for lunch at "Casa de Fruita". As Halloween was approaching, the vegetable stall had a huge display of pumpkins. *
Beyond the Diablo Range is San Joaquin Valley: very flat, and with straight roads stretching to the horizon. *
It rained quite heavily as we approached Yosemite National Park. As we entered Yosemite Valley, the rain stopped but there was still a lot of cloud and mist around. †
The next morning was fine, and we had a good view of Yosemite Falls from the door of our unit at Yosemite Lodge. †
As we set off for a drive through the National Park, the sun was shining through the trees onto the Yosemite River and steam was rising from the riverside flats. †
The scenery in Yosemite National Park is spectacular, and unlike any in Australia where everything is worn flat. *
The panorama from Glacier Point. †
Throughout the day, the sky was criss-crossed with aircraft trails. *
And Lynn likes playing with Photoshop. *
When we got back to the Valley, we walked through the forest, past Ponderosa pines ... *
and up this path to Yosemite Falls. †
The next morning the weather was sunny and calm, with reflections in the river. *
Driving back to San Francisco, there were hundreds of wind turbines along a ridge. Strangely, very few of them were turning. *
Go on to San Francisco.
