St-Émilion, 29-30 May

Travelling from Pauillac, Nick had some difficulty finding his way on the busy roads near Bordeaux, but eventually we found the old Benedictine abbey at La Sauve. †
  Another Adam-and-Eve carving. *
Contented and well-fed cat in the village of La Sauve. *
The town of St-Émilion sits nestled among its vineyards. *
The most prominent feature is the huge bell tower above the underground church. *
View of the town from near our hotel. *
The streets were narrow, steep, and lined with rather intimidating wine shops. *
We looked at the Collegiate Church. *
The porch of the Collegiate Church. *
The King's Keep, where the wine makers meet at the top of the tower to proclaim the New Wine Judgment in June and the Grape Harvest in September. *

Leaving St-Émilion, we drove along the valley of the Dordogne River to reach Sarlat-la-Canéda.
